I haven't had any trouble with these gallon bags. I measured the thickness of a sample I cut from the bag using a caliper: 2.5 mils. +/- 0.5 mils. I don't know what to compare that to -- I ran out of the brand name ones! EDIT: I got ahold of a Hefty-brand gallon storage bag and measured its thickness the same way and got the same reading: 2.5 +/- 0.5 mils. (A mil is 1/1000 inch).
My picture isn't so good, but I put water in it & turned upside down & not a drop went through. I am using these for sweater storage as i am having a moth problem. I tried the bags that are made for clothing storage but they only sealed properly the first time, & as I'm opening, taking a sweater out & then resealing & then again to put the sweater back by which time sealing isn't really sealed also the size is perfect for 1 sweater. Of course if they don't let any water out they will work for traditional storage of food.
I really like these zip close bags! I don't use them for food tho, I use them for storage. Shoes, toys, crafts, etc. They're really good quality and hold up great!
